Every dress is so different it’s impossible to give an exact quote until I’ve seen you in your dress at your first fitting but if you want a free estimate just drop me a photo and a few details and I’ll be glad to help.

Our wedding!! We did things a bit differently for Our wedding!!

We did things a bit differently for our wedding this summer. We’ve been together a long time and didn’t want a big formal event. We kept it very relaxed and DIY, and it was utterly perfect and the best day ever.

We tied the knot in our village church, where the vicar just happens to be our next-door neighbour and a very good friend. Having someone we’ve known for years lead the service made it extra special. We chose not to have any bridesmaids or groomsmen just our three beautiful daughters and our niece as our flower girls.

Of course I felt I didn’t already have enough stress in the middle of a busy bridal season so I made all the dresses myself!!

We held our reception in our garden at @greathousefarm and it was a perfect collaboration of dozens of friends helping out and making it a magical party. Paul spent months getting the garden looking amazing. We begged, borrowed and bought secondhand furniture and parasols from all over (including a very random trip to a shutdown pub on the outskirts of Manchester to buy a load of picnic table tables on Facebook marketplace). Covered the garden in bunting, borrowed a bar and a load of beer pumps and optics from friends, and put up a bouncy castle and loads of games for the kids.

We had an ice cream van for our cocktail hour, a local café put on an incredible buffet and made us loads of cakes, and in the evening we ordered curry for 80 from the local takeaway!!

It was really important to us to support local businesses and remain sustainable as much as we could. All of our food suppliers came from our village less than a mile away, flowers were from the nearest florist in Hebden Bridge and our beautiful rings also from an independent jewellers in Hebden. Paul’s suit my shoes are old and have been worn to many weddings before and I designed the bridesmaids outfits so they can wear them to parties again in the future. Nearly everything we bought for the wedding came from Vinted or Facebook marketplace and the confetti was completely home-made this spring from the blossom from the cherry trees in our garden.

It was an amazing day and I wish we could do it all over again!!
“I’ve been told I’ll lose all this beautiful lace “I’ve been told I’ll lose all this beautiful lace when my dress is shortened…”

A bride said this to me at her fitting this week.

Thankfully, I was very happy to tell her that she absolutely wouldn’t.

You don’t have to lose the detail you fell in love with

If your dress has a beautiful lace or decorative border around the hem, I don’t simply cut through it when I shorten your dress.

That lovely detail can stay exactly where it belongs.

It just takes a little more work…

Before I shorten the skirt, I painstakingly remove the lace from the original hem — either carefully unpicking it or cutting around the individual motifs, depending on how the dress has been made.

It can be a slow job, but it’s worth doing properly.

Then I shorten the dress

Once the lace is safely out of the way, I can shorten the layers of your skirt to the length we decided on at your fitting.

And then the lovely bit begins…

The lace goes back on

I reposition the original lace at the new hemline, carefully placing it so that the design flows beautifully around the bottom of the dress.

Then it’s stitched back into place as invisibly as possible.

And this is what you should be left with

A dress that’s the perfect length for you, with all that beautiful original detailing still intact.

Unless you knew it had been altered, you really shouldn’t be able to tell.

Good bridal alterations shouldn’t look like alterations

They should look as though your dress was made that way in the first place.

So if you’ve been told that shortening your wedding dress means losing the beautiful lace around the bottom, it’s worth asking whether there’s another option.

Because very often, there is. 🤍

And if you’re wondering what’s possible with your own wedding dress, you’re always welcome to send me a message. I’m very happy to have a look and talk you through your options.

✨ Bespoke Prom Dress ✨ Prom buying season is near ✨ Bespoke Prom Dress ✨

Prom buying season is nearly upon us! I’ve had several gorgeous bespoke prom commissions this year, and it’s the perfect way to ensure you stand out from the crowd with a completely unique dress.

This girl came to me with a very detailed drawing of her dream dress, and I simply created a 3D version! She chose a backless figure hugging style with a mermaid skirt and a puddle train in a matte sky blue satin with ruched detailing across the bust and hips. The bow was made in the reverse shiny side of the fabric to allow it to really stand out!

All bespoke dresses are completely made to measure, with personalised patterns created just for you, and a toile (first draft out of cotton) to refine the design and fit, before I create your final garment in your chosen fabrics.

Winter is the perfect time to start working on bespoke designs for next summer, drop me a line if you’re thinking this will be perfect for your prom!
