Can I Wear a Pink Floral Wedding Dress with Doc Boots? Heck Yes!

Bespoke wedding dress shoot, west yorkshire

When local photographer Lindsay from Elsiebee Photography reached out to me last year to collaborate on an editorial photoshoot with a difference, I leapt at the chance. The vision for this vibrant shoot was a little bit punk rock with a dash of biker chic – we wanted to showcase something completely unique, moving away from the traditional white wedding to embrace bold colours and individuality.

A bespoke wedding dress with a difference

Lindsay had previously shot several engagement sessions at a derelict brick factory just outside Halifax, West Yorkshire. Hidden deep in the woods and covered in incredible graffiti, this location oozes atmosphere and edge, making it the perfect backdrop for photos with a difference.

The inspiration for the pink floral wedding dress began with the stunning embroidered lace. It was love at first sight, and I instantly knew it was destined for this shoot. The bodice was designed as a structured bustier with cups and a lace-up back, each panel carefully adorned with the lace and finished with the palest blush satin. For the skirt, I envisioned layers upon layers of fluffy tulle, creating a dramatic, romantic silhouette. To add depth, the colours were graduated, starting with darker tones at the base and transitioning to lighter shades towards the top, with a hidden flash of fuchsia in the underskirt for a playful surprise. The blush satin waistband perfectly tied the bodice and skirt together, creating a cohesive, elegant look. Cherry red vintage Doc Marten boots added the final rebellious touch, completing the punk bride aesthetic.

Hair stylist Kaye worked her magic, crafting a bold, punk-inspired ‘80s hairstyle, while the model Tia created her own makeup look, featuring a striking winged eyeliner. Tia’s real-life husband, Joel, stepped into the groom’s role perfectly, wearing his own cowboy-inspired wedding suit, adding even more personality to the shoot. Faye, The Allotment Bride Florist tied everything together with a bouquet and boutonnière bursting with seasonal blooms in a kaleidoscope of colours, including delphiniums, roses, and peonies.

A riot of colour for a wedding

This shoot was a celebration of individuality, proving that your wedding look can be whatever you want it to be. Whether that means a pink floral dress, Doc Martens, or a graffiti-covered backdrop, your wedding day should be a reflection of your unique style and personality. Traditional white gowns are beautiful, but if something a little unconventional speaks to your soul, go for it! After all, it’s your day, and the only rule is to make it your own.
